A Review of Mantric's Miyakodori

Arriving in a compact clear plastic package, the Mantric Miyakodori does not attempt to hide what it is. The packaging proudly proclaims it is “…the first multi-functional remote control vibe – the best yet.” and also displays a large ‘As Seen On TV’ logo earned from its appearance on Channel 4. The toy comprises of one vibrating bullet, a ‘receiver unit’ (which the bullet is plugged into via a jack and flex) and a remote control unit with a keyring attachment to be given to whomever you may choose.
This vibrator is quite ‘gadgety’ in appearance, it isn’t particularly sexy looking but it is well designed and comes in a range of colours. The main control unit is only a couple of inches wide by a few inches tall and the keyring control is even smaller. The main receiver unit takes 3 AAA batteries and the remote control takes 1 (very small) 12v battery, all of which are very easy to load, very much like replacing the cells in a television remote. The material is the same for all elements of the toy – smooth and easily warmed but not yielding or jelly-like to the touch. A spot of lube makes the bullet very silky but be aware that this toy is not waterproof.
The controls are very simple. The main unit has only two buttons (not including the top on/off slide switch) – ‘down’ and ‘up’. These buttons allow the user to scroll through the six vibration modes - constant low vibration, constant low to medium vibration, constant high vibration, short regular pulses, two short pulses then one long and a gradual increase to the maximum vibration. Pressing the button a 7th time will bring the vibrations to a total stop from where you can carry on and repeat the cycle either forwards or backwards. The remote control unit, however, has only one button. This works the bullet through the vibration modes in order until it stops, further pressing starts the cycle again. The two units can be used simultaneously – the user of the bullet can select a mode and the user of the remote unit can override it or vice versa.
One of the reasons I was so excited about trying this toy was the prospect of ‘handing my partner the keys’ as it were. The remote claims to have a 20ft range and it does just about stretch that distance though, the further away you are, the less reliable it can be. On a few occasions my partner said he was scrolling through the modes but I did not feel the bullet switch functions. However, within a range of 10 feet or so the controls were perfectly responsive. I liked the fact that the control unit comes with a belt clip, allowing you to hook it onto your trousers (or underwear) waistband. Once you have the hang of wiring yourself up, you’re ready to go wherever your mood takes you. Using this toy will definitely liven up your day, I used it (with my boyfriend in charge of the remote) for an afternoon of housework and I don’t think I have ever enjoyed washing up quite so much, though I did drop a couple of plates!
Unfortunately there is no way I could personally bring myself to use this toy outside, the noise level is such that it would be extremely obvious to everyone around exactly what was going on. While the noise is not outrageous within the confines of your own bedroom and probably fine for a noisy club, gig or party, if you intend to use this in a cinema or romantic meal out, you need to prepare yourself for some inquisitive looks from those nearby. My boyfriend did, however, love the idea of having the control on his keyring or in his pocket to use whenever he wanted while we were at home. For anyone into fooling around with a little bit of powerplay and control games, this toy is a must.
The price represents excellent value for a powerful and versatile toy. You can use this on your own or with a partner and, although the bullet is primarily intended as a clitoral stimulator, there is a range of ways you can use this Mantric toy given a little imagination. The bullet certainly is powerful. The modes are perfectly designed to tease and tantalise, but the prospect of a bed-shaking, or perhaps knee-trembling, (depending on where you decide to use it) orgasm is never far away with the Miyakodori.
The only issue I have with this toy is that there is no feedback (other than what you may give yourself) for the operator of the remote unit regarding which vibration cycle the toy is in. Due to the one-button nature of the control, if the preferred mode is accidentally skipped over or wanted again, you need to go through the whole cycle again to find the one you want. You could, of course, use the main unit yourself but that kind of takes the fun out of the remote control element. That said this is a great, fun and thoroughly enjoyable vibrator. It is small enough to travel wherever you do and the possibilities for use, depending on how adventurous you are feeling, are practically limitless.
