The Vagina Monologue
The Vagina Monologue

We could be accused of focussing all of our attention on the clitoris so today we want to talk about the vagina and vaginal penetration.
When you think of the vagina it is usual to envisage a tunnel or circular opening ready to be penetrated by a penis or sex toys but in fact the vagina is much like a muscular envelope. The sides of the vagina touch and come apart when your partner or favourite vibrator pushes inside the opening. The very top of the envelope leads to the cervix which is a tiny hole that leads to the reproductive system, although there is no danger of a sex toy slipping through the hole as its too small (even ben wa balls which always seem too teeny)
We all know that finding a sensitive nerve at the clitoris is an easy task but with the vagina the most sensitive part is within 2 inches of the opening. Bear this in mind when using dildos where a larger head feels great ‘popping’ in and out of the vaginal opening. Between the sensitive opening and the anus is the perineum where there is the perineal sponge a collection of blood vessels that swell with arousal, increasing sensitivity.
When we become aroused the vagina produces a natural lubrication which varies according to individual, age, menstrual cycle, menopause and level of hydration (yes make sure you drink enough water if you feel too dry during sex). If you need extra lubrication choose a water based lube during sex or sex toy play. Liberal application of a sex lubricant enhances penetration and aids sensitivity in the vagina. If you suffer from irritations or thrush after using a lube choose a body friendly brand such as sliquid lubricant, which is paraben free, & hypoallergenic, it really makes a difference.
Once penetration reaches beyond the first third of the vaginal passage sensitivity to touch lessens although directed pressure on the G spot arouses the g spot and contributes to overall orgasm especially if the clitoris is simultaneously rubbed. See our guide to the G Spot for more in-depth information and peruse the g spot rabbit vibrators and g spot vibrators for sex toys to aid g spot stimulation.
During full arousal vaginal penetration releases a cocktail of endorphins for the ultimate feel good factor. The thrusting of penetrative sex stimulates all of the swollen elements of the vagina and the g-spot, perineal sponge and clitoral lips are all massaged against the vaginal wall. Although some women can orgasm simply with the movement of penetration many cannot and require the additional stimulus of a clitoral rub whereby repetitive massage of the nerve endings brings on the climax itself. Adopting the ‘woman on top’ position enables a direct rub of the clitoris with every thrust and kneeling on all fours with a clitoral vibrator in hand is a great way to fully enjoy the experience of sex with an aid to orgasm that won’t get in the way. Rabbit vibrators are the greatest tool for one-handed clitoral and vaginal penetration and the rotating variety has been joined by such greats as the thruster rabbit and rabbit wave. Using dildos or vibrators whilst stimulating the clitoris can lead to an orgasm of greater intensity and sex toys such as The Rock Chick and Lady Godiva offer dual stimulation hands free. Remember that there is no right or wrong way to experience an orgasm only your way.
